The Metropolitan Cathedral of Mexico City is the largest and oldest cathedral in the Americas. The cathedral was built three years after the Spanish conquest of Tenochtitlán, Hernan Cortes ordered the building of a large Catholic temple modifying the structures of the existing  Aztec temples, becoming the inheritor of Tenochtitlan’s Templo Mayor.
