The Alameda Central (Poplar grove) was created in the 16th century and is Mexico City’s oldest public park. It was originally conceived by the Viceroy Luis de Velasco during the time when many poplars trees were planted.. However these have now been replaced by ash and willows, although the original name has been retained.
